Life in the City

Chapter 10: The Quiet Heart

That night, I lie in bed.
The room is dark.
The fan makes a soft sound.

But my mind is not quiet.
I see her face again.
I see her hair near the window.
I see her eyes on the page.

I ask myself:
“Why do I care?
She is only a classmate.
But… why does my heart move?”

I turn left.
I turn right.
Sleep does not come fast.

In the morning, I wake up early.
The sun is bright.
The birds sing.
I feel light, but also strange.

On the way to school,
the road looks different.
The trees look taller.
The sky looks wider.
I think:
“Maybe the world changes
when the heart changes.”

At school, I sit again.
I try to read my book.
But I wait.
I wait for the sound of her steps.

When she comes,
I look down.
I pretend to write.
But inside,
I listen to every sound.

Her chair moves.
She opens her bag.
I feel the air change.
I tell myself:
“Be calm. Be normal.”

But my hand shakes a little.
My pen makes a small mistake.
I smile to hide it.

The teacher talks.
The blackboard is full.
I write notes.
But my eyes,
again and again,
go to the window.
Go to her.
