Life in the City
Chapter 19: A New Year, A New Life
The year is ending.
Winter nights are long.
But lights shine in the city.
Shops hang stars and bells.
Families buy food and gifts.
At home, my family cooks.
Mother makes warm soup.
Father sets the table.
We sit together and smile.
It feels safe.
On New Year’s Eve,
fireworks rise to the sky.
Colors bloom in the dark.
I stand outside with her.
We watch the lights.
She whispers,
“Another year is here.”
I answer,
“Yes. And I am glad we are here.”
She looks at me.
Her scarf moves in the wind.
She holds my hand.
Her hand is small, but warm.
In that moment I think:
Life is not about big things.
It is about small gifts.
A bowl of soup.
A card with kind words.
A walk home together.
A smile in the cold night.
I breathe deep.
The air is cold,
but my heart is full.
I whisper to myself:
“I am happy.
This is my life.
And it is enough.”
