Life in the City

Chapter 20: A New School, A New Me

The year starts.
I am now in high school.
The school is bigger.
The classrooms are new.
There are more students.
I feel a little nervous.

The teacher smiles and says,
“This year, you can choose a sport.”

I think about it.
Some boys pick football.
Some girls pick volleyball.
I like basketball.
The ball is big.
The sound on the court is strong.
I want to run, jump, and try.

She also says,
“You can join a club.
Art, music, reading, or dance.
Choose what you like.”

I stop and think.
What do I love?
I remember drawing small pictures.
I remember reading small books.
I feel happy when I write or draw.
So maybe art club is for me.

At lunch, I tell her,
“I will try basketball.
And maybe art club too.”

She laughs,
“That is a good mix.
Strong body and creative mind.”

I laugh too.
Yes, high school is new.
Yes, it is different.
But I want to learn.
I want to grow.
This is a new me.
