Life in the City
Chapter 6: On the Way Home
School is over.
I walk with Minh and Linh to the bus stop.
We say goodbye.
They take another bus.
I take mine.
The bus is not full.
I sit by the window.
The city is loud at first.
Shops are open.
People walk fast.
Cars and motorbikes fill the street.
Then the bus turns to a quiet road.
I see green fields outside.
Rice fields.
The afternoon sun is soft.
The sky is wide and orange.
The air looks calm.
I watch the fields.
The rice moves slowly in the wind.
It is like the rice is alive.
The scene makes me think.
I remember the morning.
I was afraid in class.
I made mistakes.
I felt small.
I wanted to hide.
But now I look at the rice.
The rice grows slowly, day by day.
The rice does not grow in one night.
It takes time.
It takes sun, rain, and care.
Maybe learning is the same.
Maybe I must grow slowly too.
Mistakes are like rain.
They do not stop me.
They help me.
If I keep trying, I will be strong.
One day I will be ready, like the rice in the field.
The bus moves on.
The fields pass behind me.
But the picture stays in my mind.
I feel quiet.
I feel new hope.
